The week of May the 7th is Teacher Appreciation Week. How fitting that it is also the week of Mother’s Day, considering that the ratio of female teachers to male teachers is 2584 to 821. All true teachers, male or female, tend to have a “parenting instinct”. As a teacher we protect, anticipate any problems, head them off, and teach life and school survival skills. Then many go home and do the same thing with their own children.
I know how difficult it is to be a teacher. I have been a teacher of Pre-k, 4th,5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, high school, adult GED, and learning disabilities. I have comforted, taught, protected, disciplined, and given school survival skills to many students over the past 20 years. I have been appreciated by most adults and some students, as well as yelled at and cursed by other students and adults.
Mothers have been appreciated by adults and after a certain time get yelled at and cursed at by a teenager. Are we seeing the parallel?
So, if you did not do so, go to your closest teacher (your mom, your dad, or whomever) and let them know they are appreciated.
