Some Teens May be Interested

I need to refresh these so more people can read and tell me what they think.

God said, "write it", so I did.

I was given an assignment once to choose an illustration and write a story. Well, there was a picture of 2 teens in line to get on a traveling bus. So, I started getting a story in my head and wrote and wrote and still have not finished it. However, I have most of it finished. So, here is a mystery, with a side of love, about a brother and sister who go to CA to meet their parents for Thanksgiving and end up trying to find their parents. Let me know what you think.

It was a cold morning when the number sixteen bus from Wilkesbarre, Pennsylvania pulled into the Harrisburg Airport at 8am on Wednesday.  Brad Collins and his sister Lisa stepped off the bus and walked to the line formed at the ticket counter to get their tickets…

Being Brave In A World of Fear

sign, believe

I tell my students to be brave everyday. Being brave doesn’t always mean running into a burning building or fighting the kid who said anything wrong to you. Being brave means getting out of bed in the morning and staying out of bed. Courage is praying to God everyday that HIS WILL be done, not yours. It takes guts to talk about your faith when you have no idea how people will react, but you stand up for your faith and do it anyway. It takes energy to be brave and courage to spend that energy on chances.

My strength comes from….

Courage means to do and face things that we don’t want to face or make us uncomfortable.

God picks up nobodies and makes somebodies

God takes chances on this human race every day. Shouldn’t we??? We need to pray for courage to take a chance to do his will. If his will is for you to get more involved with adjudicated youth, then take that chance. There are so many children who get on the wrong path and need better guidance. If it’s God’s will for you to enter a contest like a writing contest or even a fun pet photo contest or go onto a site where you could earn money by writing, then go for it.

Why don’t we take chances? Humans hate rejection. It hurts to be told you are a loser. I know for me it’s hard. I take chances everyday that I am helping my youth. I take chances with this blog that I am reaching people and helping them in there lives. I continue to write once a month or more in hopes that someone may see my writing and say “she needs an agent, she’s good”. Yet that fear of rejection still lingers like annoying hair in the face. I guess you could say that Satan and his little demons keep whispering, “no one cares, no one wants to read your drivel, What could you have to offer people”….. Yuck, I do not appreciate him at all and I Pray God keeps him and his angels far away from me because I work for God not Satan.

You Are only confined by walls you make

I’ll tell you what I do when I have had very bad panic attacks at the ocean. Yes, I couldn’t believe it either. I married a man who loves to swim in the ocean. One day, about 4 or so years ago I went in and couldn’t catch my breath. I realized I was almost hyperventilating. I got out. I kept trying every summer to go back in and nothing worked until this past summer. I decided to listen to the advice that I gave to my youth who suffered from anger and anxiety. I walked in and kept thinking, “pink fluffy bunnies”, repeating it over and over in my head until I was swimming with my husband. Any time my thoughts went to “the dark side” I would think Pink fluffy bunnies. I was having fun for the first time in years!!!! God gave me a tool to use for my students and for me.

I’m willing to take a chance on all my readers out there. I pray it’s God’s will for you to read this and then be brave enough to act on it. I was brave yesterday when I entered my pets into a photo contest, that was free, where I could win money that would help us to pay for the 8 month old kitten to get her booster shots and to get fixed. This money could also help pay for the turkey feed and hay for their pens since it has been raining a lot. If you click on this link> King Pet Photo contest it should bring you to Duncan’s page. I entered him, the 2 cats and the dog. So far I am the only one voting so, I feel like a dirty politician stuffing the ballot box.

Waiting for God                                                                                I just want to sleep                                      Duncan and Tabitha

Since my husband’s company cut out any overtime hours our funds are very tight. I am trying my best to find other ways to earn that other $500/month or something to help pay for things. So, until my “fairy book agent” appears, this gal has to take some of her own advice and be brave enough to take chances on her writing and find places that may pay her for all of this plethora of “wisdom”. I may have to chant about “pink fluffy bunnies” again.field of bunnies

Thank you for your help, in advance, with the voting on and just look for the search thing and put in “Black jack” or “Sammy Samantha” or “Duncan” or “Shilah” or just put in my name “melissa pasek”.  If they ask you to register, it should be for free and you can un-subscribe in 2 weeks when the contests are done. It may be easier if you have a pet to zip right onto there and then we could support each other.

What chances are you willing to take???????

Life on a Rural Half Acre: The Year In Review

The land that may have been forgotten,+NC/@36.0292779,-77.0049447,8z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x89afa3ca27a02cb3:0x4ee346fe7765ab49 Another year down here in the Northeast corner of North Carolina has come and gone. We had one snow in late January. Lots of rain in February. Many other things happened too like going places, losing pets, and things. But God saw us through it all. In March, we went to New Bern for our Anniversary. It is a nice town where a Pharmacist had come up with the drink called Pepsi. Pepsi It was the capital of the state way back in….the 1700’s. The town was founded by a man from Bern, Switzerland and thus New Bern was founded in 1710.  Now the main center of government was located north of here in Albemarle area ( I believe it was the town where I work, Edenton, NC). In 1747, the Assembly was convinced to make New Bern the official Capital.  There was no headquarters so Governor Tryon set out to build a headquarters fit for a king and thus in 1767 Tryon Palace was built and completed in 3 years. A year later Tryon moved to become the “royal governor of New York”. There were various wars and financial set backs that you can read about  if you google “New Bern history” so I won’t bore you with any more details. Just know that there were bears to take pictures of,  New Bern Bear

and  enough to see in a day or two.

In April, our six year old tabby, Samba, came inside breathing oddly. I thought he had a cold and would sleep it off for the day. By 9pm I was concerned since he (who lives for food) did not eat, refused anything I offered. It was Sunday and no vets are open on the weekends out in the boondox.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Someone on Facebook said if I called one of the vets they may be willing to meet me in an emergency but I would have to pay. I thought about it for a while and kept praying for something….I transferred money from savings and made the call about 11… I wrapped up the cat and walked out to the car with him, he convulsed, spit up liquid and went limp. I was now “the other hysterical person”. I brought him back to the porch, crying, and started to pump his little chest and just as I was about to tell the vet I wasn’t coming, he took a breath. I hung up the phone, ran to the car  and put him in the seat next to me. I drove 10 miles an hour over the limit and he meowed and cried to me the whole time. We talked and talked for the 20 min. drive. I was 500- 1000 feet from the driveway and the vet had just pulled in. “see Samba we are …” nothing… I steered with one hand and pumped his chest with the other saying, “you are too young, you can’t leave me! come on Samba, fight!’ Screeching to a halt, I threw the car to park, ran to the other side of the car to grab him, as the vet was punching the security code. ” he just stopped breathing again!” Ran him inside put him on the table she listened, she pumped, she  listened , the put a needle in him to check for liquids… There was nothing left to do… he was gone. The vet said that he went so quickly there was nothing else I could have done. Small Solace as I cried and held my buddy wrapped in a towel and walked out. I love hard so I hurt big…. Bruce buried him the next day after he came back from working a 24 hour shift.

We moved on, and April turned to May OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  and May turned to JuneJune garden. We planted our gardens and cared for the turkeys. We played with our dog and coddled our one cat, BlackJack. Then one night, on Facebook, a friend posted this face…. Sammy at Lindsey's      and said she couldn’t keep the kitten. The husband had said no more cats. So, I just scrolled on.

One week later he says, “I’m going to go pick up that kitten tomorrow, get the cage ready by the time I get home.  When this little one showed up there was a chunk out of the ear, the tail was bobbed and it had a limp. We thought it was a boy so we named him Samson, for the strength of going through what ever it went through. A few days later, my husband came back from the vet said we will call HER Sammy. The limp was a deformation of the hips and otherwise she was fine. She has grown into an 8 month old fluffy cutie pie. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

So, this has been yet another year of ups and downs and fluffy curveballs.

Christmas came and now is gone. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOnly a few ornaments were victims to Sammy’s playfulness.

Our “stocking graveyard” is growing. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

God has blessed us time and time again. I pray he keeps it up for we are just the caretakers of this little part of His earth.
